President Hassan Rouhani lauds Iranian sitting volleyball players

President Hassan Rouhani praised Iran sitting volleyball team after winning World Super 6 sitting volleyball in Tabriz on Tuesday.

Team Melli defeated Russia 3-0 (25-21, 25-23, 28-26) in the final match.

The members of the Iranian national team met with Hassan Rouhani after the final match in the northwestern city of Tabriz as part of his provincial visit.

Iranian Minister of Sports and Youth Affairs Masoud Soltanifar, who attended the match at the Sadra Hall, also applauded the players and staff.

Team Iran, known as dream team of sitting volleyball, have won Paralympic Games six times.

SUPER SIX CHAMPS

The first world men’s league of para volleyball took place in Tabriz,
the capital city of East Azerbaijan province of Iran from April 19th through the 24th. A total of six teams were competing against each other for the championship title and a cash prize of $30,000 USD. Participant teams were Russia, Ukraine, Germany, Bosnia and Herzegovina, USA, and the host team, Iran.

On the evening of April 24th, the two powerful para volleyball teams of Iran and Russia went to the playground at Sadra hall of Tabriz city went to fight for the title of the first men’s world para volleyball league. Iran powerfully defeated the Russian team in straight sets, 3-0 (25-21, 25-23, 28-26).

The Iran team took the championship title of the first world men’s sitting volleyball league after achieving five consecutive wins against their rivals. They also took home the highest cash prize amount $12,000 USD. The second place team earned $6000 USD.

In one of the best games of the competition, Bosnia and Herzegovina pushed past the Ukraine team, 3-0 (25-21, 25-18, 25-20), for the bronze medal.

In the battle for fifth place, Germany defeated the USA 3-1 (25-18, 31-29, 23-25, 25-19).

All of the games were broadcasted live by T.V of East Azerbaijan province.

Altogether 18 games were played.

Having gone through its five pool matches undefeated, the Paralympic champion capped off its tournament with another victory at the Sadra Sports Hall.

Iran overpowered Russia 3-0 (25-21, 25-23, 28-26) in the final match on Tuesday.

“I am satisfied with our performance in the competition. I am also glad about discovering new talented players in the event. I think the future is bright for Iran’s sitting volleyball,” Iran coach Hadi Rezaei said.

In the bronze medal match, Bosnia and Herzegovina defeated Ukraine 3-0 (25-21, 25-18, 25-20).

Germany finished fifth after overcoming the United States 25-18, 31-29, 23-25, 25-19 in a play-off.
